2021 Rowing Season Begins

Date Effective: May 29, 2021

Kenora Rowing Club is open only to members who are cleared to row singles without supervision.  All members who are cleared MUST follow the strict protocols below. Failure to comply with these protocols may result in temporary revocation of access rights to the boathouse.

Read more and find links for registration and rowing reservations on the “KRC & COVID-19” page.

Juniors and inexperienced adult members are NOT permitted to row at this time. Club programming requiring coaching will be permitted only after Ontario enters Phase 1 of the “Roadmap to Reopening”.

Masks Mandatory in Club

As of Monday, August 17, 2020 everyone entering in the KRC boathouse must be wearing a mask. Note: Masks are required inside even when the bay doors are open.

Masks can be removed once outside and when rowing but must be put back on when re-entering the club and returning your shell after rowing.

NWHU Poster - Mask or Face Covering Required

Under instructions issued by the Medical Officer of Health, all businesses and organizations in the Northwestern Health Unit area must adopt a policy that requires all members of the public and employees who enter or remain in an enclosed public space to wear a mask or face covering. This policy will be effective Monday August 17, 2020 at 12:01 am.

Phase 2 for KRC’s COVID Rowing

As of July 6, 2020 we have moved into Phase 2 of our opening at the Kenora Rowing Club.

A lot of the Phase 1 requirements remain the same but with Phase 2 we will see the Junior program starting up (for experienced juniors), allow doubles/pairs if partners are committed to rowing consistently with the same partner, and see an increase to allow 2 people per bay and a maximum of 6 in the boathouse at any one time.

Distancing must be maintained at all times unless you are with someone from your “bubble”.

With increased traffic at the club please know that the use of the reservations documents (even for private boats) as well as the sign in/out sheet becomes even more important. All boats must continue to be cleaned and disinfected before and after every row. For those using club boats this step is of particular importance.

Please make sure you continue to follow the procedures as outlined on the KRC & COVID-19 page.

Phase 1 of Opening

KRC has started Phase 1 of our opening!

Beginning on May 28, 2020, the Kenora Rowing Club is open only to members who are cleared to row single sculls.

All members who are cleared MUST follow the Phase 1 rules for boathouse access, equipment cleaning, and maintaining physical distancing. It’s not quite rowing as usual but at least it is rowing!

Phase 1 rowers, please make sure you have read and completed all of the requirements detailed on our KRC and COVID-19 page.

KRC Opening Soon – Message from Board

May 24, 2020

An Important Message from the Board of Directors

These exceptional times of COVID-19 require that the Kenora Rowing Club implement exceptional measures, and that its members show exceptional discipline to ensure that we all stay healthy and still have a great rowing season.

The Club has developed a COVID-19 Code of Conduct that will be in effect for the 2020 rowing season. This document will ensure that all who come to the Club maintain appropriate physical distancing and sanitation measures. Please read this document carefully.

Our passion to be on the water must be tempered by our sense of community. We must all work together to ensure the health and safety of all and to ensure the Club can remain open throughout the summer.

The Board is currently hard at work finalizing the club policies and procedures and ensuring the boathouse has all of the supplies and signage needed to open for Phase 1. In the first phase, starting on May 28, we will be open only to Masters rowers that are cleared to row a single on their own. Single boats only unless you live with your 2x partner. The KRC online registration will open on May 26 for these members. Fees must be paid via credit card or e-transfer only. Members that have completed the online registration, completed payment, and agreed to the Phase 1 COVID-19 Contract will be given clearance to begin reserving rowing times/shells and accessing the Club.

Please note that Juniors and inexperienced Masters are not permitted to row at this time. Any programming or rowing requiring coaching or multiple people carrying/rowing a shell is prohibited until further notice. We will open up to these programs when it is permissible to have multiple people in closer proximity.

We will continue to evolve with the situation and policies will change as we learn more and see our efforts in action. If you have suggestions or want to assist the club during this time, please communicate with a member of the Board.

I wish you all good health and the best rowing season we can have!

Erin McCuaig
President, Kenora Rowing Club

COVID-19 Updates – May 2020

May 15, 2020 Update

Restrictions are starting to lift and the KRC Board is working through what this means and what procedures and protocols will need to be in place before we can open for rowers. Single rowers will be first back out on the water but we still aren’t there yet – hold tight!

We are attending RCA’s Return to Play webinar on May 19th as well as Manitoba Rowing and Row Ontario meetings on the 19th and 20th before meeting again as a board for further discussion on what we need to do to ensure the safety of our club and our members. We will communicate the plans and procedures as soon as we have them finalized, but until then the club remains temporarily closed.
